Four people were wounded in Eemshaven in Groningen on Thursday evening when the boom of a crane broke off while lifting  heavy load. The crane was on a ship from Cyprus. The ship is used to place windmills at sea, ANP reports.

The four wounded were taken off te ship and transferred to hospital, the Groningen fire department said. How badly they were hurt, is not known.

The Inspectorate for Living Environment and Transport will investigate the incident.

Two ships with sophisticated equipment are being used in the search for a man missing since his ship capsized in the Westerschelde. Three people were aboard the ship when it flipped over late on Thursday night into Friday morning.

A barge with three people on board capsized on the Westerschelde around midnight last night, NOS reports. This happened while a dredger was busy loading sand over onto the barge. The cause of the capsizing is still unknown.

A criminal investigation into a West Brabant waste management firm led to the arrest of three of the company’s directors on Monday, reports the Dutch Public Prosecutor (OM). The trio are allegedly responsible for directing the mixing of hazardous waste with fuel oil sold for heating and combustion plants at greenhouses and on ships.

Two Filipino crew members that went overboard from Dutch freight ship Marietje Andrea may have fallen over a railing that lacked proper protection, concludes the Dutch Safety Board on a report released today. The two men, Harlan C. Layosa, 27, and Gleemar Sapanta, 26, went missing on December 5, 2013, in the Baltic Sea near the coast of Trelleborg, Sweden.
