The body of a man, an injured man and dozens of kilograms of amphetamine were found in a home in the Kralingen district in Rotterdam on Sunday afternoon, the police said in a statement. The injured man was arrested and taken to hospital for examination.

The number of homeless 18- to 65-year-olds in the Netherlands more than doubled from 17,800 in 2009 to 39,300 last year. The number of homeless people between the ages of 18 and 30 years tripled duirng this period, as has the number of homeless people with a non-Western migration background, Statistics Netherlands reported on Friday.

A woman was attacked by three dogs in an apartment in Hilledijk in Rotterdam during the early hours of Wednesday morning. She was seriously injured. Responding police officers were forced to shoot and kill all three dogs, a police spokesperson said to newspaper AD.

Police officers responded to the apartment building at 1:45 a.m. after a neighbor called reporting screaming and barking coming from the apartment. At the scene the officers saw that three dogs were attacking a woman on the apartment's porch. They managed to enter the porch area through a neighbor's home.

The Maas tunnel in Rotterdam is open again in both directions after two years of renovations. During the work, the tunnel was closed in the direction of Rotterdam-Zuid. Since 6:00 a.m. on Monday morning, traffic can fully use the tunnel again, NOS reports.

A 39-year-old cyclist was hit by a car on Claes de Vrieselaan in Rotterdam on Tuesday evening. He died in hospital a short time later. The motorist that hit him fled the scene of the accident, but the police managed to arrest him later, the police said in a statement.

The hit-and-run happened at around 9:30 p.m. The cyclist was resuscitated at the scene and rushed to hospital. The man succumbed to his injuries in hospital.

The police and customs officers in the port of Rotterdam made two large cocaine busts over the weekend. They found a total of 1,250 kilograms of cocaine hidden in a shipment of produce and a shipment of fruit concentrate, the police said in a statement on Tuesday.

The number of traffic incidents involving laughing gas is skyrocketing, the Dutch police said in a statement. "We see people making dangerous maneuvers in traffic because they are filling up a balloon or have one in the mouth", police inspector Paul Broer said. "Even thought the effect of laughing gas is short-lived, it has a direct effect on driving ability."

Ferraris are fast cars, the Rotterdam police realized again after catching a Ferrari driver speeding on Wednesday. The man was driving nearly 100 kilometers over the speed limit, the Rotterdam police said on Twitter.

The motorist was driving at 145 kilometers per hour, in a 50 km/h zone. The police immediately confiscated his driver's license. The speed limit also applies to Ferrari drivers, the police said. 

The case was transferred to the Public Prosecution Service for further processing.

Cat lovers can celebrate International Cat Day on Thursday by going to watch cat videos on the big screen in six Dutch cities. This is the first year that Dutch cinemas are participating in the international CatVideoFest. 

Cinemas in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Utrecht, Groningen, Leeuwarden and Hilversum are taking part in this international festival celebrating the hero of the internet, Het Parool reports. Visitors will see an around 70 minutes-long compilation of funny or cute (or both) cat videos and animations.

Emergency services in Rotterdam responded en masse to the Maasstad Hospital on Wednesday night after a woman showed up at the GP station with symptoms of Ebola. A few hours later, just after midnight, the local safety office announced that it was a false alarm - the woman does not have the highly contagious disease, NOS reports.

Travelers chose the main station in Groningen as the most beautiful train station in the Netherlands, in a poll ran by NS on social media. Amsterdam Central Station came in 4th place.

Of the over 10 thousand people who voted, over 33 percent voted for Groningen. The historic station in Valkenburg came in second place with 16 percent of the votes, followed by Rotterdam Central Station with 14 percent, Amsterdam Central Station with 11 percent, and Utrecht Central Station with 9 percent.

The police arrested a 17-year-old moped rider after a long and dangerous chase through Rotterdam at around 1:00 a.m. on Wednesday morning. When he was finally caught, the teen boy asked the police officer for a rematch. "We have to give it to him, this young man has a sense of humor", the Rotterdam-Oost police said on Facebook.

The police officer noticed the moped driving without lights and at a very high speed along Prins Alexanderlaan. The officer thought the moped might be stolen and ordered the rider to stop. The rider ignored this and sped away. The cop gave chase.

The police searched the lake in The Hague neighborhood of Ypenburg on Wednesday night in the investigation into the death of 17-year-old Orlando Boldewijn from Rotterdam. The teen disappeared after a Grindr date in February last year and was found dead in the lake a week later.

The police released the name and photo of a man wanted in connection with a fatal shooting in Rotterdam-Delfshaven on July 3rd. 25-year-old Gino Oliveira was killed in the shooting. The police are now calling on the public's help to find suspected gunman 22-year-old Aldijr Marlin.

NS is running fewer intercity trains on Friday due to the heat. Prolonged exposure to the high temperatures means that trains need to be serviced more often, and that the maintenance takes longer to perform, a spokesperson for the Dutch rail company said to AD.

A Rotterdam woman detained in Turkey on suspicion of belonging to a terrorist organization, was released from custody on Tuesday by the court in Istanbul. However, she has to stay in Turkey at least until her next hearing on October 3rd, NOS reports.

The 31-year-old woman was arrested at the airport in Istanbul with her 5-month-old daughter in April. After a short trip in Turkey, she was on her way to return to the Netherlands. She and her baby have been in custody since.

A woman and her dog were killed in a hit-and-run accident on Gordelweg in Rotterdam-Noord on Monday evening. The woman was walking her dog. They were hit by a car when they crossed the road, RTL Nieuws reports.

Emergency services tried to resuscitate the woman, but it was to no avail. She died at the scene. Her dog also did not survive the accident.

The driver left the scene after hitting the woman and her dog, but he was arrested later in the evening.

So far nothing is known about the victim's identity.

A a 25-year-old motorcyclist died in an accident while being chased by the police in Rotterdam on Sunday morning, the police said in a statement.

The police spotted two motorcyclists driving at high speed along Laan op Zuid in Rotterdam on Sunday morning and gave chase. At 2e Rosestraat one of the motorcyclists crashed into a RET bus. The rider, a 25-year-old man from Ridderkerk, died at the scene.

The other motorcyclist fell. He was not seriously injured and fled further on foot, the police said. He was arrested a short time later.

The average national rent increase in the second quarter of 2019 was the lowest since the second quarter of 2015. Rents in the Netherlands increased an average of 3.1 percent in the second quarter of this year, according to figures from Pararius. This clearly shows that the price increases are slowing down, the housing platform said, NU.nl reports. 

Rent increases fell below 5 percent for the first time in 3.5 years in the last quarter of 2018. And that slowing down effect is continuing, according to Pararius.

A man with 68 thousand euros in cash on him jumped into the Maas river in Rotterdam while trying to get away from the police on Thursday morning, the Rotterdam police said on Twitter. 

According to the police, officers addressed the man because he showed suspicious behavior. He could not explain why he had so much cash on him. 

"What do you do if you have 68 thousand euros in your pocket, cannot explain this and have the police right in front of you? A man on Prins Hendrikkade only saw one way out", the police tweeted. "With the money, he jumped into the water."
