The police can partly be held liable for damages caused by a shopping center in Alphen aan den Rijn in 2011, the court in The Hague ruled on Tuesday. Personal injury- and death damages can be claimed from the police, according to the court, NU.nl and NOS report.

The parents of Tristan van der Vlis is not responsible for their son killing five people and hurting 17 others in a shooting in Alphen aan den Rijn in 2011, the court in The Hague ruled on Wednesday. According to the court, Van der Vlis' parents couldn't know beforehand that their son was planning the mass shooting, ANP reports.

Victims of a shooting in the Ridderhof mall in Alphen aan den Rijn almost six years ago, are suing gunman Tristan van der Vlis's parents for compensation. They believe the parents deserve part of the blame for ignoring the signs that their son was derailing, AD reports.

Alphen aan den Rijn commemorated the 5th anniversary of a mass shooting in a mall in the city. On April 9th, 2011 Tristan van der Vlis opened fire in the Ridderhof mall, killing six people and injuring 16 others, before committing suicide.

The police ignored all the signals on the psychological problems of Ridderhof-shooter Tristan van der Vlis. Not only when granting him weapon licenses, but also twice afterwards in its renewal. This was the argument of the lawyers on behalf of 51 victims of the shooting in the court in the Hague this morning.
