A group of men say they were assaulted and harassed during Pride celebrations in Amsterdam over a week ago while waiting to enter Club Church for the Gay Pride (Z)onderbroek party. 

One of the men Loki, a 37-year-old international civil rights attorney, accused the owner of the next door restaurant De Sneeker Pan, of “harassing and yelling” at him and a few other patrons to get off the sidewalk as they waited for Club Church to open its doors.

A gay couple was harassed by an Uber driver in Amsterdam on Sunday. They were holding hands in the Uber, on their way home from Pride Amsterdam, when the driver insulted them and spat on them, they said, NOS reports.

A lesbian couple was beaten up by two men on a scooter in Amsterdam city center early on Saturday morning. They were walking hand-in-hand on Zandstraat, a narrow alley near Zuiderkerk, at around 5:00 a.m. after a night out when they were attacked, Het Parool reports.

The PvdA faction in Amsterdam received a storm of negative reactions because of a photo posted on the party's Twitter account on Saturday. In the photo, PvdA councilor in Amsterdam Hendrik Jan Biemond is posing in a yellow burka with other burka wearing people from the LGBTQ community during Canal Pride in Amsterdam on Saturday, AD reports.

A total of 14 people were arrested during Canal Pride activities in Amsterdam on Friday night and Saturday, for crimes ranging from pickpocketing to sailing under the influence. "The police look back on a pleasant Canal Pride", the police said in a statement.

Eleven people were arrested at Pride festivities on Saturday, including seven for sailing under the influence. Three people were arrested at Pride parties on Friday, for pickpocketing, insult, and assault.

The body of a man was found in the water of Korte Prinsengracht in Amsterdam on Sunday morning. The victim was identified as a 49-year-old Hungarian man with no fixed address, the Amsterdam police said on Twitter.

Passersby spotted the body and called the police at around 9:00 a.m., according to Het Parool. The man's body was found near where the Canal Pride parade ended on Saturday.

The police confiscated flyers handed out by pedophile group Kinderbevrijdingsfront during the Pride Walk in Amsterdam on Saturday. According to the police, the flyers were seized because of bystanders' severely upset reactions to them. "This man handed out flyers in the Vondelpark and the organization of the Pride Walk did not want that", a police spokesperson said to Het Parool.

Around 15 thousand people participated in the Pride Walk in Amsterdam on Saturday, according to the organizers of Pride Amsterdam. The march through the Dutch capital, which is dedicated to drawing attention to the situation of LGBTQ people in countries where being gay is punishable, is the traditional start of the annual event, NU.nl reports.

During Pride Amsterdam this coming week, Artis zoo will showcase how sexually diverse nature is with guided tours of bisexual penguins, fish that change sex, and male bird flocks that raise chicks together. The annual Pride Lecture will also focus on this. "Different sexual preferences, alternating couples, gender changes or the lack of gender: nothing is alien to the animal, plant and microbial kingdoms", Artis said in a press release.

Amsterdam is preparing for Pride Amsterdam, which starts in the city on Saturday. The Pride Walk on Saturday will be dedicated to murdered Russian LGBTQ activist Yelena Grigoryeva. During the Canal Parade next Saturday, the city is blocking off a total of 700 meters of quays due to concerns that they may collapse under the masse of spectators.

Taxi companies in Amsterdam are working with the municipality and the Amsterdam region's Discrimination Hotline to take measures to combat discrimination. This was prompted by an incident during Pride Amsterdam last year, when a taxi driver refused to give Pride ambassador Jennifer Hopelezz a ride. With Pride 2019 a month away, the taxi companies signed a declaration of intent for a discrimination-free taxi market, NOS reports.

Pride Amsterdam will be officially added to the Intangible Heritage Inventory of the Netherlands as an essential part of Dutch cultural heritage this year, the Knowledge Center for Intangible Heritage announced on Thursday. The addition ceremony will take place on the Museumplein in Amsterdam during the Pride Walk, the annual activist march from the gay monument to Vondelpark on the first day of Amsterdam Pride on July 27th, AD reports.

This year five large political parties will participate in the Pride Amsterdam canal parade in one boat. In this way the VVD, CDA, D66, SP and PvdA want to show that they stand together to support the LGBTQ community, NU.nl reports.

The organizers of Pride Amsterdam is satisfied with a successful edition this year. All nine days of the festival were well attended and pleasant, and there were no noteworthy incidents, a spokesperson for the organization said to ANP.

Pride Amsterdam started last week with the Pride Walk demonstration through Amsterdam. Between 10 thousand and 12 thousand people participated this year, compared to 7,500 last year, the spokesperson said. "We think that's because the Netherlands is becoming more intolerant, which automatically creates a counter-sound."
