Polling stations in the Netherlands open today for Dutch-Turks to vote in a Turkish referendum that, if successful, would give Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan more power. About 249 thousand Dutch-Turks can vote in the referendum from today until Sunday, RTL Nieuws reports.

People with a Turkish passport in other European countries already voted. Turkey itself will go to the polls on April 16th.

Many Dutch traveling to and from work will be able to cast their votes in the parliamentary elections en route. A record number of polling stations were set up at train stations, thanks to a joint effort by NS, ProRail and the municipalities. There are also various polling stations at airports, for Dutch traveling abroad, including at Schiphol and Eindhoven Airport.

Not all polling stations opened on time in the Dutch parliamentary election on Wednesday. Polling stations in Almere, Friesland and Tilburg opened later than expected, due to "key problems".

Today the Dutch are voting for a new parliament at one of 8,891 polling stations. The first polling stations to open were in Castricum and Amsterdam at midnight. Hundreds of votes were already cast, RTL Nieuws reports.

The Amsterdam PvdA and the National Youth Council believe that there should be polling stations at more vocational high schools for the parliamentary elections on March 15th. As the plans stand so far, there will only be polling stations at ROC Amsterdam and ROC Top. Universities and academic high schools are somewhat better represented when it comes to polling stations in Amsterdam, AD reports.

Interior Minister Ronald Plasterk can not guarantee that no fraud was committed in the collection of signatures in support of the Ukraine referendum, he said in response to questions from law firm Bureau Brandeis on the matter. The Electoral Council took a sample and verified the authenticity of the address with the name of the signee, but it can not be said with certainty that the signatures were submitted by different individuals, the Minster said according to the Volkskrant.

Today citizens of the Netherlands can vote for or against the ratification of an association agreement between the European Union and the Ukraine. The first polling stations opened at 5:00 a.m. in Nijmegen and Castricum. Most others open at 7:30 a.m. As with other elections, the polling stations will be open until 9:00 p.m.

All around the Netherlands calls go out for a recount of the votes. In several cities victories are gained, or losses are suffered by a difference of just one vote.

So far 29 percent of eligible voters have cast their votes in the city council elections, according to polling agency Ipsos, based on a poll around 15:30. The turnout is the same as in 2010.
