Freedom of speech means that everyone must be able to express their opinion, whatever it may be, Rotterdam mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb said at a neighborhood Iftar on Sunday. "No matter how poisonous the message may be, it must be able to be expressed", he said in reaction to him allowing a Pegida pork roasting demonstration at the Laleli mosque in Rotterdam-Zuid last week, ANP reports.

About 20 supporters of anti-Islam movement Pegida decided at the last minute not to hold a demonstrative barbecue in front of the Laleli Mosque in Rotterdam on Thursday. According to Pegida, the police said that their safety couldn't be guaranteed. According to the police, they said no such thing and the group decided on its own to leave, NU.nl reports.

A spokesperson for Rotterdam Mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb told the newspaper that Pegida "made the decision not to let the demonstration go on itself, when they saw the crowd."

Turkey fiercely criticized Rotterdam mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb for allowing anti-Islam movement Pegida to on Thursday evening. On Twitter Omer Celik, the Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs, called the decision to allow this protest "immoral".

Mayor Pauline Krikke banned a barbecue protest planned by anti-Islam Pegida group at the As-Soennah mosque in the city. According to Krikke, the barbecue can lead to "serious disruptions to public order", RTL Nieuws reports.

The police arrested 11 people during and after a demonstration by anti-Islam movement Pegida in Amsterdam on Sunday afternoon. According to the police, the demonstration was "relatively calm" and nobody was injured.

Around 25 to 30 Pegida supporters gathered at the Stopera and started marching towards Frederiksplein around 1:30 p.m. A group of 40 to 50 people, belonging to movement Laat Ze Niet Lopen among others, gave a counter demonstration. The riot police kept the two groups apart.

A 35-year-old man arrested for leaving a beheaded doll at the Emir Sultan Mosque in Amsterdam, confessed, the Public Prosecutor announced on Thursday. He was released from custody, but the investigation against him continues, Het Parool reports.

According to the newspaper, the man in question is former Pegida member Hugo Kuijper.

Anti-Islam movement Pegida is planning a demonstration in Amsterdam on March 11th, Pegida Nederland frontman Edwin Wagensveld announced on YouTube. According to him, the demonstration will happen in good consultation with the municipality and the police. The right-wing group wants to march through the city center, starting at Waterlooplein and ending at the Museumplein.

A spokesperson for Mayor Jozias van Aartsen confirmed to Het Parool that the city is discussing the demonstration with Pegida.

The Amsterdam city council meeting was suspended for a time on Thursday afternoon while three men dressed as blackface Zwarte Pieten, complete with gold rings in their ears and red lips, were removed from the public gallery. Officially they were removed because the blackface makeup made them unrecognizable and they thereby violated a ban on wearing face-covering clothing in public buildings, AD reports.

A police horse died during a demonstration by anti-Islam group Pegida in Nijmegen on Sunday. The horse died of heart failure and its death was not caused by its deployment to the demonstration, the Nijmegen police said on Twitter.

The horse collapsed around 2:00 p.m. near the Tunnelweg in Nijmegen. The rider was hurt in the fall. According to the police, the officer is doing "well under the circumstances".

A total of 32 people were arrested during demonstrations in Enschede by extreme right-wing collaboration group Fortress Europe, which includes Pegida, and anti-fascist groups No-Hogesa and AFA on Sunday. All but one of the detainees were released from custody during the course of the day, ANP reports.

The suspect still in custody was a speaker during one of the demonstrations. He is suspected of insulting groups of people and discrimination.

The municipality of Enschede is taking a number of extra security measures in preparation for various demonstrations scheduled to happen in the city on Sunday. Anti-Islam group Pediga arranged a demonstration for Sunday and a number of anti-fascist groups already announced counter demonstrations.

Extra security measures include a ban on face-covering clothing, the police will be allowed to preventatively search people on the streets, and the demonstration areas will be monitored by cameras, RTL Nieuws reports.

Protesters chained and locked the front- and back doors of Islamic primary school Er Risèlèh on Stadhouderslaan in Leiden during Sunday night. A number of news sources attributed the action to anti-Islam movement Pegida. Pegida Nederland expressed support for the action on Twitter, but said that it was organized by Leiden residents, NU.nl reports

"Dutch people oppose Islamic education", was written on a pamphlet left at the school.

The police arrested a total of 10 people in Enschede on Sunday for breaking a demonstration ban implemented in the city. About an equal number of right-wing anti-Islam movement Pegida supporters and their opponents were arrested, according to news wire ANP.

All of the detainees were released again by Sunday night, the Enschede police said on Twitter. Pegida leader Edwin Wagensveld was one of those arrested.

The city of Enschede decided to ban planned demonstrations by Fortress Europe, No Nazis in Enschede and Enschede tegen Racisme on Sunday due to indications that the demonstrations will may lead to confrontations. Anti-Islam movement Pegida, which was set to be part of the Fortress Europe demonstration, is furious about this decision and plans to go through with the demonstration, Tubantia reports.

A total of 14 people were arrested during protests by anti-Islam organization Pegida and a number of groups that oppose them, including the anti-fascism action group AFA, in Tilburg on Sunday. The people arrested were with the groups protesting against Pegida, the police said to NU.nl.

Most of the detainees were arrested for not complying with the general local regulation - they were trying to seek confrontation with other protesting groups. Two were arrested for not being able to identify themselves, and another was arrested for insult.

Four underage boys were arrested in Groningen on Sunday just before two demonstrations in the city - one by anti-Islam movement Pegida and a counter protest by Groningen Tolerant. According to the police, they boys were arrested for being in the possession of fireworks and brass knuckles and not being able to identify themselves, GIC reports.

A few hours after the protests, the police said that the arrested boys seemed to have no connection to the Pegida demonstration.

PVV leader Geert Wilders and a number of candidate PVV parliamentarians are demonstrating in front of the Turkish Embassy in The Hague on Wednesday. Wilders is carrying a banner reading "Stay away! This is our country", ANP reports.

A number of anti-Islam group Pegida supporters are also in front of the embassy.The police closed down the street and many officers are present.

Pegida leader Edwin Wagensveld was arrested on Sunday afternoon during a demonstration by the anti-Islam movement in Utrecht. According to the police, he was arrested for demonstrating where he was not allowed to, ANP reports.

"He was on the Janskerkhof making a statement towards various media. This was not allowed, so we took him away", a police spokesperson said to the news wire. Wagensveld was taken to a police station for questioning.

The Public Prosecutor in Amsterdam demanded a 250 euro fine against Pegida frontman Edwin Wagensveld in court on Thursday for showing a swastika during an demonstration in Amsterdam. The display of the swastika went against the Mayor's rules for the demonstration, ANP reports.

The incident happened during a Pegida demonstration in Amsterdam on February 27th. To prevent disorder and based on the Law on Public Events, Amsterdam mayor Eberhard van der Laan set a number of rules for the demonstration. One of them was a ban on swastikas.
