The Netherlands is full of possibilities for a hyperloop test track, but Flevoland is the most suitable location, Minister Melanie Schultz van Haegen wrote to the Tweede Kamer. She asked TNO to investigate the economic and social usefulness and the feasibility of testing the hyperloop in the Netherlands, and eventually building a permanent track, ANP reports.

Dutch truckers are facing major problems with the new toll registration system Belgium implemented last last year, the Dutch organization for transport and logistics TLN said to broadcaster NOS. Hundreds of truckers received fines because the the toll registration box installed in their trucks doesn't work properly, according to TLN.

Dutch Hyperloop startup HARDT opened its own test facility in Delft on Thursday. Minister Melanie Schultz van Haegen of Infrastructure and Environment unveiled the Hyperloop test tube, the first of its kind in Europe. And while this structure is intended to test Hyperloop facilities at lower speeds, the 30 meter long tube could pave the way for transport at speeds over 1 thousand kilometers per hour, partner BAM said in a press release.

The Dutch government is paying much more than necessary for its new airplane - a Boeing 737 Business Jet, NRC reports based on information and documents from stakeholders. According to the newspaper, the government rejected an offer from Boeing competitor Airbus for a similar device that was nearly 18 million euros cheaper. Airbus was also able to deliver the plane earlier than Boeing, according to NRC.

Three quarters of people in the Netherlands are against texting and using a smartphone while cycling, according to a survey commissioned by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Environment, the Telegraaf reports.

The survey was done among a representative group of 554 people over the age of 18 years. 70 percent of respondents described using a smartphone while cycling as an "urgent problem". Of the respondents over the age of 55 years, a massive 90 percent saw it that way. While among young people, only half see it as an urgent problem.

The new officially opened to traffic on Friday morning. And while there is a traffic jam on the A2 from Eindhoven to Maastricht, it is unrelated to the tunnel, according to the ANWB. Motorists should take 20 minutes of extra travel time into account because of this traffic jam.

The Koning Willem-Alexander tunnel under Maastricht is opening to traffic tonight. The intention is that this 2.4 kilometer long tunnel will put an end to an era of long traffic jams on the A2 highway in the city, NOS reports. 

According to Rijkswaterstaat, the tunnel will take about 80 percent of the traffic currently traveling along Maastricht, and will therefore make a significant improvement to the rush hour situation on the A2.

The Dutch cabinet has given its approval to decrease the age someone in the Netherlands is allowed to get behind the wheel of a car from 18 years of age down to 17. The 17 year olds who pass their written exams are then allowed to get on-the-road training from an instructor, with the goal of passing their practical exams when they turn 18.
