Former tennis coach Mark de J. was sentenced to 18 years in prison by the court in Utrecht on Tuesday. The court found him guilty of murdering businessman Koen Everink in March 2016. The sentence is equal to what the prosecutor demanded, NOS reports.

The Public Prosecutor demanded 18 years in prison against former tennis coach Mark de J. for the murder of businessman Koen Everink in his Bilthoven home in March last year. According to De J.'s lawyer, Bob Kaarls, the Prosecutor was selectively blind when investigating Everink's murder. "The Prosecutor suffers from tunnel vision", he said in court on Tuesday, NU.nl reports.

There will be no further investigations, including DNA investigation, in the case surrounding the murder of businessman Koen Everink, the court in Utrecht decided in a pro-forma hearing on Monday. The court also decided that suspect Mark de J. will remain in custody, NU.nl reports.

According to the court, investigation has already been done by three institutes, including the Netherlands Forensic Institute. "These investigations will be used in the assessment of the case", the court said. Another investigation wil not contribute anything, according to the court.

It is very likely that businessman Koen Everink was killed by more than one person, forensic laboratory IFS concludes in a report. Prime suspect Mark de J.'s family asked IFS to look at the case files in the hopes that the laboratory's conclusions will prompt the judiciary to do more investigation into Everink's murder, AD reports.

The surviving family of businessman Koen Everink filed a lawsuit in an Utrecht court on Wednesday demanding just over 26 thousand euros from Mark de J. De J. was arrested on March 24 at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam on suspiscion of stabbing Everink to death at Everink's Bilthoven home.
