The coronavirus outbreak in China is expected to push the prices of garlic and ginger. China is the world's largest exporter of these aromatics, responsible for 80 percent of all garlic in the world. In the Netherlands, 75 percent of all ginger and 66 percent of all garlic comes from China, according to figures from Statistics Netherlands. And the doors of the Chinese warehouses full of garlic bulbs and ginger roots have been closed for weeks, NOS reports.

The Dutch economy grew by 1.7 percent in 2019 - the lowest growth since 2014, according to figures Statistics Netherlands released on Thursday. Economic growth last year was boosted by more consumer spending and investments by companies. The trade-balance had a negative effect on the growth, the stats office said.

In 2018 the economy grew 2.6 percent. The growth is declining, "but if you compare it with the countries around us, we did very well," Statistics Netherlands chief economist Peter Hein van Mulligen said to NU.nl.

The Dutch economy continues to grow strongly and economic growth is even accelerating, according to Statistics Netherlands. In the second quarter the Dutch economy grew by 0.7 percent compared to the first quarter of this year. The stats office attributes the accelerating growth to foreign trade and higher investments.

Of all the countries in the European Union, the Netherlands spends the most money on importing insects, Statistics Netherlands revealed on Thursday. In the first half of this year, the Netherlands spent 8.2 million euros on importing live insects, five times more than in 2012.

The Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs updated its travel advice for Turkey, due to current political tensions between the two countries. The Dutch government does not advise against going to Turkey, but does warn Dutch travelers to watch out for gatherings and avoid public places, ANP reports.

These warnings are on top of the already in place advice of risks in Turkey due to terrorist attacks and political tensions.

The Dutch economy grew by 2.1 percent in 2016, the strongest growth since 2007, according to preliminary figures Statistics Netherlands released on Tuesday. The economy of the Netherlands has shown steady growth for 11 quarters in a row, ANP reports.

In the fourth quarter of 2016 the economy grew by 0.5 percent. Compared to the fourth quarter of 2015, the growth was 2.3 percent.

The Dutch economy continued its steady growth for the 8th quarter in a row. In the first quarter of 2016 the economy grew 0.5 percent compared to the previous quarter and 1.4 percent compared to the first quarter of last year, according to Statistics Netherlands' preliminary calculations.

The Dutch economy saw a very slight improvement in the third quarter, growing by 0.1 percent compared to the second quarter. Compared to the third quarter of 2014, the economy crew by 1.9 percent. The number of jobs and vacancies also picked up in the third quarter 2015.

Among others, the papers Asharq Al-Awsat, Al-Riyadh and Al-Yaum, ran an ad in which the organization takes distance form the anti-Islam sticker campaign of Geert Wilders, on behalf of Dutch entrepreneurs.

The Dutch minister of Foreign Affairs, Frans Timmermans (PvdA) will "shortly" be traveling to Saudi Arabia to try and find a solution for the conflict that arose around the anti-Islam sticker action of Geert Wilders. His spokesperson told press office Novum this morning that there are "good indications" that the conflict can be solved.
