A total of 42 Dutch parliamentarians resigned since the previous election in 2012. That is the most of any cabinet since 1981, the Financieele Dagblad reports based on data from the Parliamentary Documentation Center of Leiden University. On average 35 parliamentarians resign during a typical four year term of government.

D66 parliamentarian Gerard Schouw is leaving politics after 25 years of being active for the D66. From August 1st this year he will be the CEO of Nefarma, the Dutch Association for Innovative Medicines, the party announced on their website.

A Liberian asylum seeker was on his way to Brussels, from where he would be deported back to Liberia, when he got the surprising news that he can remain in the Netherlands.

The man had repeatedly appealed against his deportation because of the Ebola epidemic prevailing in his country, but all his requests were denied.

A ruling by the court in Roermond prevented the deportation of the 31 year old man, his lawyer confirmed. Last week the court in Den Bosch ruled that he must be returned to Liberia despite the Ebola epidemic.

The D66 wants clarification from the Cabinet over the high sick leave in the national government. According to recent figures absenteeism was 5.2 percent last year, well above the Dutch average of 3.9 percent, Trouw.nl reports.

The House of Representatives as well as the Senate voted with a strong majority on the D66 initiative that will see no civil servants be appointed to office if they do not support all marriage, including between men and between women.

The Senate voted on the bill to amend referenda, put forward by PvdA, D66 and GroenLinks. The so-called advisory referendum (non-binding) will be instated temporarily until there is a corrective referendum (binding). The advisory referendum is getting a participation quorum of 30 percent of those eligible to vote.
