More and more Dutch are buying their groceries and tools for home projects online. Web stores like Albert Heijn, Jumbo and Picnic are seeing their turnover grow with double digits every year, and DIY stores are also showing impressive growth, according to the Twinkle 100, a ranking of the 100 most popular online sellers based on turnover, NOS reports.
Online supermarket Picnic is the fastest growing company in the Netherlands, followed by meal deliverer Takeaway.com and cosmetics chain Rituals, according to research by Erasmus University Rotterdam, NOS reports.
Pieter Zwart, CEO of Coolblue, was assaulted and robbed near the Hotel New York in Rotterdam on Friday night. Zwart was treated in hospital and was then allowed to go home, RTV Rijnmond reports.
A 23-year-old man with no fixed place of residence was arrested. A second suspect fled.
Why Zwart was attacked is not yet known. According to the police, he was hit on the head and lost consciousness for a time. A person who tried to help him, was also attacked.
Black Friday and Cyber Monday turned out to be very busy days for Dutch online stores, with Bol.com, Coolblue and Mediamarkt all reporting record breaking numbers in visitors and sales. PostNL warns that there may be some delay in delivering packages.
"Over the past days there were many extra online orders. We are delivering most packages today. For a small part of the packages, we expect a delay. We will deliver those packages tomorrow", the Dutch postal service wrote on its site on Tuesday.
Last minute Christmas shopping is expected to result in an extremely busy day for Dutch online stores on Monday. Bol.com director Daniel Ropers expects Monday to be the busiest day in the history of online shopping in the Netherlands
Major online stores, such as Coolblue and Bol.com, will no longer publish a large part of their ranges on price comparison site Kieskeurig.nl.
Dutch postal service PostNL announces Monday that cuts, the smooth restructuring process and price hikes have resulted in an improved turnover for the second quarter of this year. Turnover increased with an added three percent to more than €1 billion.
PostNL is going to trial delivering packages on Sunday. This service has been developed together with Coolblue, an online shop that is the first to offer Sunday deliveries. The two companies announced today that online shoppers in The Netherlands and Flanders can get packages delivered between 12 and 6 p.m. on Sunday.
