Twitter account for Geert Wilders' cats

On Saturday PVV leader Geert Wilders created a Twitter account for his cats. Whether or not this was a news worthy event caused quite a stir in Dutch Media and on social media.

Newspaper AD, like a few other newspapers, decided to write something about it and post it on the newspaper's site. Prominent VVD member and former parliament president Frans Weisglas directed a a tweet to AD editor Hans Nijenhuis, asking whether he could explain the relevance of the story. "Dear Hans Nijenhuis, can you explain the relevance of this story in your serious newspaper?" he tweeted.

Amsterdam's first cat cafe opens today. Kopjes is located on Marco Polostraat in Amsterdam. The cafe has already received a lot of interest - more than 600 cat lovers have already made a reservation.

The Netherlands' first cat cafe, Kopjes, will open its doors on April 22nd. The cafe is located on Marco Polostraat in Amsterdam.

An Amsterdammer would not startle when finding a cat roaming around their legs in a cafe. For many years, cats have been an integral part of the local colour, ridding premisses of pesky vermin and providing comfort to the regulars. However well known Nieuwmarkt spot Cafe ‘t Loosje has received word from the Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) that their beloved cat Smokey can no longer remain on the premises. Outraged by the order, employee Marie Boudri started an online petition which is receiving considerable community support.

There is too much demand at the animal food banks in The Netherlands. The foundation Collection Bank Animals Netherlands told Metro that the number of people paying weekly visits to the animal food bank has doubled in the last three months.
