Both the Dutch egg sector and the government did not give food safety high enough priority when it came to the fipronil contaminated egg scandal of last year, a committee headed by former Minister Winnie Sorgdrager concluded after investigating the crisis. The previous government also did not properly inform parliament about what was going on, the committee found, ANP reports.

The people of the Netherlands are currently not very enthusiastic about the still forming government of VVD, CDA, D66 and ChristenUnie, according to a study Ipsos did on behalf of broadcaster NOS. Only a quarter are positive about a government consisting of those four parties, around 33 percent are negative about it and over 40 percent have no strong feelings either way, NOS reports.

As the time for the Rutte II cabinet to hand over to a new government approaches, the confidence the Dutch public has in the departing government increases. The VVD and PvdA government hasn't enjoyed as much confidence from the voters since its inauguration in 2012, according to EenVandaag's Budget Day poll. The same goes for Prime Minister Mark Rutte.

The Rutte II cabinet is now officially the longest serving Dutch government since the Second World War. On Sunday the VVD-PvdA coalition served a total of 1,749 days - one day more than the previous record holder, the Lubbers III cabinet, NOS reports.

The third Ruud Lubbers cabinet, a CDA and PvdA coalition, ruled for 1,748 days from 1989 to 1994. The cabinet that followed, Kok I, also had a long formation process, lasting 111 days. Today is the 159th day of the current government formation talks

Enormous budget cuts to elderly care done by the Rutte II cabinet saved no money, according to a study by newspaper AD, De Groene Amsterdammer and Investico. The Rutte II cabinet thought to save 1.88 billion euros by being less quick to send elderly people to nursing home, but eventually not a cent was left of that amount, according to the study.

At this stage 61 percent of voters believe that the current cabinet, Rutte II, will serve its full term. In October only 44 percent believed that this would be the case, according to a poll done by TNS Nipo and published on Friday

His proposal is one of several measures Prime Minister Mark Rutte's cabinet plans to undertake in an effort to tackle radicalization and Jihadism in the Netherlands.

The Cabinet of Rutte II must use the rest of its time in government, until 2017, for at least one big reform on taxes that makes working more attractive and demands more taxes from the rich. This position comes from PvdA-leader Diederik Samson, who tells the Volkskrant that the Cabinet should hold back less and must make big investments that boost the economy and employment.
