TunFun playground in Amsterdam Centrum

TunFun, an underground playground located under Mr. Visserplein, was ordered closed with immediate effect by district Centrum. The playground's fire safety is not in order, a spokesperson for the district confirmed to Het Parool.

The fire department inspected the building early this month and concluded that its fire safety was "not sufficiently in order" - the playground equipment is not fire safe and there is also criticism on the state of the electrical installations' maintenance.

The power is still out in Amsterdam Centrum. Liander hopes to have it restored around 3:15 p.m., the grid manager says on Twitter. Two people were injured when the power went out. A hit cable caused a large flame on Weteringschans. One man sustained burns, and the other was also near the flame, the local safety office said to NU.nl.

The victims were taken to hospital. Both were conscious and speaking, and their injuries don't seem to be too serious, according to the safety office.

The Amsterdam police shot and killed a man who was suspected of stabbing another man just after midnight on Friday, the police said in a statement.

Both the stabbing and the shooting happened in a home on Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal in Amsterdam Centrum. Both men were resuscitated. The stabbing victim was rushed to hospital. The man shot by the police was declared dead at the scene.

The city of Amsterdam is allowed to force the closure of cheese store Amsterdam Cheese Company on Damrak under its ban on tourist shops in the city center, the Amsterdam administrative court ruled on Tuesday.

The in an effort to prevent the closure of its newest store. The chain has four other branches in the city center.

The Amsterdam Cheese Company took the municipality of Amsterdam to court over the city's decision to ban the opening of new tourist shops in Amsterdam Centrum. Due to this ban, the newly opened Amsterdam Cheese Company store on Damrak has to close. The cheese company hopes that the court will prevent this closure when it rules next month.

Amsterdam Centrum wants to reduce traffic problems in the Red Light District by closing certain roads to taxis at night. The district proposed a 6 month experiment in which taxis will not be allowed on several streets around the Red Light District between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. from Thursday night to Monday morning, Het Parool reports.
