Explosion damages house in Venlo, suspect on the run; stabbing in Amsterdam

An explosive device detonated in a residential building in the municipality of Venlo on Sunday morning. As a result, the front door of the house in Malherbestraat in the Blerick district was “severely damaged,” according to the police. No one was injured.

Around 05:30 a.m., witnesses saw a man wearing a hoodie running off in an unknown direction. De Limburger reported that the explosion destroyed not only the front of the house but also some cars parked near it.

The police are investigating the explosion and are looking for witnesses and camera footage.

In another case, a man was seriously injured in a stabbing in the Amsterdam city center on Saturday afternoon. The stabbing incident took place around 3 p.m. at the crossing of Rozengracht and Prinsengracht. The 34-year-old victim from Amsterdam was taken to hospital with serious injuries, the police reported.

The police have arrested a 34-year-old man with no fixed abode or residence as a suspect. How and whether the two know each other is not yet clear. A police spokesperson could also not yet say what preceded the stabbing incident.

Police are looking for images and witnesses. Bystanders who saw the stabbing incident can contact Victim Support.
