Dutch football club asks Mick Jagger for jacket that resemble's club kit
Football club Kickers ’69 from Leimuiden has asked Rolling Stones singer Mick Jagger to give up the jacket he wore at the presentation of his new album, “Foreign Tongues.” The jacket features the same pattern as the orange-and-white striped kit worn by Kickers ’69 players. Club chairman Wim Buskermolen confirmed the request in a message to AD.
“It would be an honor if we could hang the jacket in our clubhouse. The similarities are too coincidental not to do something about it,” Buskermolen told RTL.
The idea began as a joke after several Kickers ’69 players noticed the similarities between Jagger’s jacket and the team shirt. Buskermolen, a big Rolling Stones fan, decided to contact the band’s management. He made a video for Jagger proposing to swap the jacket for an original Kickers shirt.
"I immediately thought, where could he have got it from? Was Mick Jagger inspired by Kickers'69 in his choice of clothing? Or is this purely a coincidence? We will find out," Buskermolen told AD.
The clothing brand Masita, which made the Kickers shirts, went bankrupt some time ago.
The club sought help from AD journalist Hanneke van Houwelingen, who had interviewed Jagger in June about the new album. She offered to forward the club's English-language request to the band's record label, with the expectation that it would reach Jagger's manager.
