Police shoot suspect during arrest in Apeldoorn
Police officers fired shots during an arrest in Apeldoorn on Friday evening. According to NU.nl, the suspect was injured and taken to a hospital.
Police said they received a report of an assault and went at about 8:30 p.m. to a building on Kleiberg to arrest a man. During the arrest, police fired their weapons, according to police.
The officers did not say what caused the situation to escalate. They said they would not provide substantive details about the incident while the investigation is ongoing.
"To avoid disrupting or influencing the investigation, no substantive statements about the incident will be made until the investigation has been completed," police said.
The condition of the suspect was not immediately clear. He was treated at the scene for his injuries before being taken to a hospital.
The National Criminal Investigation Department, the Rijksrecherche, will investigate whether police used excessive force. Such an investigation is standard procedure.
