Police shoot suspect after threatening incident on boat in Groningen

Police in Groningen have arrested a man after a shooting incident on a boat near Gideonweg. Authorities confirmed that the suspect, who was injured in the incident, has been transported to a hospital for treatment.

The shooting occurred around 5:00 p.m. when officers responded to reports of a threatening situation involving a man who was believed to be carrying a knife. The police were called to the area following concerns of a potential threat on board a boat.

Approximately 140 asylum seekers are housed on boats near the Antwerp Bridge on Gideonweg, but it has not been confirmed whether the incident took place on one of these boats.

The Dutch National Police Internal Affairs Division, known as the Rijksrecherche, is conducting an investigation into the police shooting, a standard procedure for such incidents. Authorities have not released further details on the suspect's condition or the specifics of the confrontation at this time.
