Prosecutors believe mother is responsible for death of 14-year-old girl in Blerick

The mother of 14-year-old Nour from Blerick is to remain in custody as she is suspected of being involved in her daughter’s death. Nour’s father, who was initially arrested as a suspect, was released. He is no longer considered a suspect in the fatal stabbing but is still under investigation.

An investigating judge ordered the mother to remain in custody for an additional 14 days, citing strong suspicion that she was responsible for her daughter’s death.

The incident occurred on the morning of Monday, April 20, at the family home on Elzenstraat in Blerick. Emergency responders tried to revive the girl, but she died at the scene from her injuries.

The family had been on the radar of support agencies such as Veilig Thuis for a long time. Reports suggest there had been a few calls regarding domestic violence within the household, with the last call dating back two years ago.

The neighborhood near the Elzenstraat in Blerick has reacted with great sadness. Friends and neighbours have set up a memorial outside the home, leaving flowers, teddy bears, and candles.

The family has requested privacy during this time and for people to refrain from using photos of Nour on social media. The investigation into what exactly happened during the stabbing is still continuing.

"There are also many questions, and speculation and rumours are being shared. This is causing unrest and uncertainty among various people and in different places. As soon as more information becomes available and can be shared, it will be communicated via the channels of the Public Prosecution Service, the police, and the municipality," the prosecution service said in a statmeent.
