Over 52 million tourists stayed in Dutch hotels, holiday parks & campsites in 2025

Last year, 52.2 million tourists stayed in Dutch hotels, campsites, and holiday parks, an increase of 2 percent compared to 2024. The increase is entirely due to foreign tourists, Statistics Netherlands (CBS) reported on Friday.

22.3 million international tourists stayed at Dutch accommodations last year, 5 percent more than a year earlier. The number of Dutch tourists decreased slightly, by -0.4 percent to 29.9 million guests.

At 33.7 million guests, Dutch hotels accommodated the most tourists last year. The number of tourists staying in hotels increased by 2 percent compared to 2024. Campsites saw the strongest increase, by 9 percent to 5.6 million guests. Holiday parks accommodated 11.4 million people last year, about the same as a year earlier.

The number of international tourists increased by more than the number of Dutch tourists across all types of accommodations. The growth in international tourists was the highest at campsites, at +10 percent. Campsites also received 8 percent more Dutch visitors. The biggest difference between foreign and domestic tourists was in hotels. Last year, 16.2 million foreign guests stayed in hotels (+5 percent), compared to approximately 760,000 Dutch guests (-1 percent).

As in previous years, most tourists visited the province of Noord-Holland, going to Amsterdam in particular. Noord-Holland received 16.3 million visitors, 2 percent more than in 2024. 9.5 million of these tourists stayed in Amsterdam, an increase of 2 percent.

The province of Flevoland saw the strongest growth in tourists spending the night. The number of guests rose by 15 percent to 958,000. Groningen also saw a big increase at +9.2 percent, with more international tourists (+16.4 percent), in particular, finding the province.

The number of tourists spending the night decreased in Zeeland (-3.7 percent) and Utrecht (-2.9 percent). Utrecht province welcomed 3.4 percent more international tourists, but the number of Dutch staying in the province’s holiday accommodations dropped by 5 percent. In Zeeland, both the number of foreign (-1.8 percent) and domestic (-6.1 percent) guests decreased.
