Man from Eindhoven arrested after allegedly strangling partner in Weert
A 36-year-old man from Eindhoven allegedly strangled and assaulted his 42-year-old Belgian partner during a violent argument inside a car on Thursday morning on the Eindhovenseweg in Weert, Noord-Brabant. The woman was later taken to hospital for treatment.
The incident took place around 9 a.m. while the couple was driving. The dispute escalated inside the vehicle, at which point the man allegedly struck the woman multiple times and squeezed her throat while they were still on the road.
The woman was eventually able to free herself from his grip and got out of the car. The man left the scene immediately after the woman escaped. She was then helped by passing motorists who stopped at the scene. At least three vehicles pulled over, and several bystanders provided assistance.
He fled before authorities arrived. Police later tracked him down and arrested him in Budel, where he was taken into custody for further investigation.
Authorities are still trying to identify and contact the bystanders who assisted at the scene. They are specifically asking the drivers and passengers of at least three vehicles that stopped, as well as anyone else who helped, to come forward as part of the ongoing investigation.
