19-year-old cyclist dies in Putten after midnight collision with car

A 19-year-old cyclist from Putten died after a collision with a car on Beulekampersteeg around midnight Friday, De Puttenaer.nl, reported.

The impact caused both the bicycle and the vehicle to end up in an adjacent ditch, leaving the cyclist severely injured on the roadway.

Emergency responders, including ambulance, fire, and police units, arrived promptly. Despite immediate efforts, the cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, a 21-year-old man from Nijkerk, was unharmed. Police reported that preliminary observations suggested the driver may have been under the influence of cannabis or other drugs.

The driver was taken to the police station for questioning. A blood test will determine whether substances played a role.

Beulekampersteeg, a rural road running south of Putten between the N303 and Nijkerk, was closed for several hours while forensic teams investigated the crash.
