Two cyclists killed in separate truck collisions in Gelderland and Overijssel
Two separate fatal collisions involving cyclists and trucks occurred Friday in Gelderland and Overijssel, leaving a 73-year-old man and a 14-year-old boy dead, authorities confirmed.
In Gelderland, a 73-year-old cyclist from Veldhoven, Noord-Brabant, died after being struck by a truck on the Beekbergerweg (N786) near the Loenense Waterfall and a nearby holiday park, according to Hart van Nederland.
The cyclist sustained severe injuries and later succumbed to them. The truck driver is a 24-year-old man from Poland. Police said the investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing.
Meanwhile, in Overijssel, a 14-year-old boy from Almelo lost his life after a collision with a truck near the Betuining area of Almelo, De Telegraaf reported Friday evening. The truck driver, a 67-year-old man from the Tubbergen municipality, has been detained by police. Authorities are conducting an investigation but have not released further details at this time.
