Barn fire in Bornerbroek traps smoke between houses, sends odor through streets
A barn fire in Bornerbroek early Sunday caused heavy smoke to linger between homes along Entersestraat, according to the Veiligheidsregio Twente.
The fire broke out overnight from Saturday to Sunday at a barn on Entersestraat in the Twente village. Authorities said the blaze generated large amounts of smoke that failed to rise because of the weather conditions, instead remaining trapped between nearby houses and causing odor nuisance for residents.
Much of the barn burned out during the incident. Fire officials said the flames were mainly located between the ceiling and the beam structure of the building.
To extinguish the fire effectively, firefighters had to demolish significant parts of the structure to reach the burning areas. The fire was brought under control at about 6 a.m. Sunday.
