NS warns for more train delays and crowding this weekend due to maintenance
Train passengers should expect busier trains and longer travel times starting this weekend due to maintenance work on multiple routes, the NS reports. Some lines will be completely closed for scheduled work. The NS recommends checking travel plans just before departure.
Starting Friday evening, train services will be reduced for a week on the Utrecht Centraal–Amsterdam Centraal line, as well as on the routes from Utrecht Centraal to Schiphol Airport and to Arnhem Centraal. During the weekend of February 21–22, trains between Ede-Wageningen and Arnhem will not run at all, with buses provided instead.
ProRail will perform track maintenance at Utrecht Centraal this weekend. Sprinter services between Utrecht Centraal and Utrecht Overvecht will be suspended. The NS recommends that travelers use Bilthoven as an alternative route.
Sprinter services will be suspended on certain routes next week. From Monday, February 23, to Thursday evening, February 26, buses will operate instead of Sprinters between Utrecht Centraal and Maarssen. Additionally, stopbuses will run between Utrecht Centraal and Bunnik from Monday to Friday.
ProRail previously announced that train services between Alkmaar and Uitgeest will be suspended from Saturday, February 21, to Friday, February 27, for maintenance work. Buses will replace the trains during this period, provided by the NS.
Since the longer travel times result from scheduled maintenance already reflected in the journey planner, passengers cannot claim reimbursement for them. The “Geld Terug bij Vertraging” (Money Back for Delays) compensation only applies if the delay goes beyond the revised travel advice provided in the planner.
