Dangerous sexual performance supplement found to contain banned drug Sildenafil

The Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) has warned that the sexual performance supplement Percita Vital Plus contains a hazardous substance and should not be used.

The NVWA notes that the sellers of Percita Vital Plus claim it contains only safe libido-enhancing ingredients. However, the label does not disclose that the supplement contains sildenafil, a drug that boosts sexual performance and libido but is only available by prescription.

Misuse can lead to serious side effects, including heart issues, diarrhea, blurred vision, dizziness, and dangerously low blood pressure. Sildenafil is therefore prohibited in dietary supplements.

Sildenafil, the active ingredient in Viagra, has previously been detected in products such as libido-boosting honey and slimming teas. Like Percita Vital Plus, these items were sold online.

The NVWA frequently issues warnings, including a “Blocklist” of dietary supplements containing banned substances. This list includes libido boosters, slimming products, and other supplements that are ineffective or potentially dangerous.

The NVWA strongly warns against purchasing or using Percita Vital Plus. Anyone who has already taken the supplement and experiences health issues should seek medical attention immediately.

Consumers are encouraged to report any side effects to Lareb and to notify the NVWA about the product.
