Two men arrested after gunfire at Maastricht wedding procession
Police arrested two men Friday afternoon after they fired several shots at a wedding procession in northern Maastricht, L1 reports.
The procession traveled along Meerssenerweg around 3:30 p.m. Police received reports of gunfire, and videos of the incident circulated online.
The two suspected shooters were arrested around 5:30 p.m. while in a vehicle. They were transported to a police station, and their car was seized.
Initial investigations determined that the shots were not intended as violence but were ceremonial, meant to wish prosperity to the newlywed couple.
Officers on the scene recovered shell casings. Authorities believe the rounds were blanks, though further examination is ongoing.
