Man arrested after brutal assault in Maastricht city center

A man was arrested this weekend following a severe assault in the center of Maastricht that left another man injured. Police credit city surveillance cameras for the rapid response.

The incident occurred in the early hours between Friday night and Saturday morning, L1 reports. Security footage showed the victim being struck to the ground without warning. The assailant then delivered a powerful kick to the victim’s head.

Police officers arrived at the scene quickly and immediately detained a suspect. The man was taken to the Maastricht detention center, where authorities said he would reflect on his actions.

He is currently under investigation for attempted manslaughter or assault and will face the public prosecutor. Authorities reported that the victim is recovering and is in stable condition.
