Kollum mother to remain in custody 14 more days after 8-year-old daughter found dead
A 35-year-old woman from Kollum will remain in pretrial detention for 14 more days following the death of her 8-year-old daughter, the Public Prosecution Service reported Tuesday evening.
The girl was found dead Saturday morning in the family home on Gysbert Japicxstrjitte. Emergency services responded around 9:15 a.m. to a call reporting a medical emergency and discovered the child had died.
The mother was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder or manslaughter. Specialists from the Forensic Investigation Unit conducted a search for evidence inside and around the home.
On Tuesday, the woman appeared before the examining magistrate at the court in Leeuwarden, who ruled she would remain in custody while the investigation continues.
“All scenarios are being investigated,” police said, requesting calm from the public and respect for the family’s privacy.
