Man run over on Stadionweg in Rotterdam while lying on road
A man died Thursday morning after being struck by a car while lying on the road on Stadionweg in Rotterdam, Rijnmond reported.
Emergency services received a report of a person on the roadway around 3:45 a.m. Officers later found the man deceased approximately 150 meters from the crosswalk near the stairs leading to the Kuip stadium parking area. The victim’s age and residence have not yet been released, pending family notification.
The female driver who struck the man stopped immediately. She has not been arrested, but police are speaking with her, and her vehicle has been seized for further examination.
Police said the man had been walking from the Varkenoordsviaduct toward the Kuip shortly before the accident. “He caught our attention by the way he was walking. Why he ended up on the road is still unclear,” a spokesperson said.
One lane of Stadionweg was closed for several hours while forensic investigators examined the scene under a white tent covering the body.
Police are seeking witnesses who saw the man walking on Stadionweg between approximately 3:35 a.m. and 3:50 a.m. Anyone with information is asked to come forward.
