Two children found with stab wounds after dad causes wrong-way crash on A58 near Tilburg
A wrong-way driver who caused a multi-vehicle crash on the A58 near Tilburg on Saturday evening was later identified as the father of two young children found with stab wounds in his home in Moergestel, police said.
The crash occurred on the A58 near Tilburg when the driver, traveling in the wrong direction, collided head-on with other vehicles. Seven cars were involved, police said, and the impact caused extensive damage across the highway. The suspected wrong-way driver was seriously injured and transported to a hospital.
After the crash, officers went to the driver’s home in Moergestel to inform his family about the collision. When no one answered the door, police forced entry because of what they described as suspicious circumstances surrounding the crash. Inside, the children, both younger than 10, were found with severe stab wounds and were taken to a hospital. Police said the whereabouts of their mother remain unknown.
Police said they are investigating what happened inside the house and described the situation as one with “many questions and few answers.” The search for the children’s mother continues, and police have asked anyone with information to come forward.
Two witnesses told Omroep Brabant that the wrong-way driver approached them at high speed with his headlights turned off before the vehicles collided. Despite the force of the crash, they escaped with muscle soreness. “We had more than one little angel on our shoulders that we survived this,” one of the women said.
Other motorists involved in the crash suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene by ambulance crews. The A58 was fully closed for several hours as emergency services cleared vehicles and investigators examined the scene.
