Four injured in back-to-back crashes on A58 near Tilburg
Four people were injured early Sunday morning in two consecutive accidents on the A58 highway between Tilburg and Breda, forcing authorities to close the road in the direction of Breda, police said.
The first crash occurred around 5:30 a.m. when a truck collided with a passenger car between the Tilburg Centrum and Tilburg Reeshof exits.
The driver of the car became trapped and had to be freed by firefighters. To safely carry out the rescue, authorities closed several lanes using red X signs.
Shortly afterward, a second collision occurred when another car with three occupants failed to notice or ignored the lane closures and rear-ended a stationary fire truck at the scene. All three passengers in that car were injured.
“Despite the second collision, the firefighters were able to free the trapped driver,” police said. The condition of the four injured individuals has not been disclosed.
Drivers traveling toward Breda are advised to follow detour signs via the A65, A2, A59, and A27 through Den Bosch and Waalwijk. It is currently unknown how long the closure will last.
