Three men arrested in Netherlands after house explosion in Antwerp
Three men were arrested in Nieuwendijk early Friday morning after allegedly being involved in an explosion at a house in Antwerp, Belgium, the Antwerp police said.
The explosion occurred shortly after 2 a.m. at a residence on Kistemaeckersstraat, a neighborhood near Antwerp Central Station. A fire broke out after the blast, but residents were able to extinguish it themselves, Omroep Brabant reported. However, two people were taken to the hospital for precautionary checks after inhaling smoke.
The house targeted in the attack had previously been the site of other assaults, and authorities suspect the incident may be linked to drug-related activity.
According to police, the three suspects crossed the border into the Netherlands at Brecht before being apprehended in Nieuwendijk. Belgian authorities had provided the description of the suspects and their vehicle to Dutch police. “Two other suspects were arrested shortly after the explosion,” Antwerp police said.
