Video shows man severely beating woman in Dutch employment agency NL Jobs car

A video showing a man severely beating a woman in a branded NL Jobs car went viral on Dutch sites this week. The employment agency confirmed to AD that the two people involved are a Romanian couple who have worked for the company for a long time. NL Jobs summarily dismissed the man and filed a police report, a spokesperson told the newspaper.

The incident occurred in Schagen, Noord-Holland, on Sunday. A bystander recorded the video and posted it on various sites, including Dumpert. It shows the man beating the woman with his fists. She tries to get away, but he pulls her back into the car and continues the assault. The violence is so intense that the car is visibly shaking.

Although the assault happened in a company car, NL Jobs stressed that the violence took place “outside working hours and in the private sphere.” The spokesperson said that the couple had been working for the employment agency for quite some time, but it had never had any warning signs. “We were unaware of any signs of domestic violence, so we are very surprised.”

The couple was remarkably calm when confronted with the footage, the spokesperson said. “They were very nonchalant about the whole situation. The woman didn't even want to file a report about what happened to her. Well, as an employer, you’re really backed into a corner then.”

The company decided to fire the man involved. “We condemn every form of violence and transgressive behavior. Such behavior is completely incompatible with the norms and values that NL Jobs upholds as an organization,” the agency said in a written report.

NL Jobs also decided to go to the police themselves and file a domestic violence report.
