Primary school-aged child killed in fatbike and truck collision in Amsterdam-Noord

A child died Friday afternoon after being struck by a truck while riding on a fatbike with an adult in Amsterdam-Noord, police said.

The crash happened around 2:15 p.m. at the intersection of Beemsterstraat and IJdoornlaan, AT5 reported. The child was seriously injured in the collision, and several bystanders gave first aid at the scene before emergency responders transported the victim to a hospital, where the child later died. The adult riding the electric bicycle was also injured but did not require hospital treatment, according to police.

Authorities have not released the child’s age, citing privacy reasons, but said the victim was of primary school age. The relationship between the adult and the child has not been made public.

The truck driver was taken into custody for questioning — a standard procedure in serious traffic incidents.

Forensic investigators examined the intersection for several hours. Police have asked any witnesses to come forward.
