Teen arrested in Helmond after string of shootings and explosion
A 15-year-old boy from Helmond was arrested late Friday night on suspicion of involvement in a string of violent incidents in the city, including a house shooting and an explosion, Omroep Brabant reported.
Earlier this month, an explosion destroyed the front door and a window of a house on Ricoutsvoort in Helmond. The following day, a residence on Jan Stevensstraat came under fire. Police said eight shots were fired at the home while the 68-year-old resident was inside. She was not injured but was deeply shaken.
A week before those attacks, gunfire was also reported on Klaverhof, where several people exchanged shots. No one was hurt, though a car window was shattered.
Police believe the teenager is connected to the same cases for which a 19-year-old Helmond man was previously detained. Following the Jan Stevensstraat shooting, police arrested the 19-year-old suspect, who remains in custody. But since more violence occurred after his arrest, authorities suspected that others were involved.
Police have not ruled out further arrests and are urging anyone with surveillance footage or information to contact the Helmond criminal investigation department.
