Small fire forces train halt between Almere and Amsterdam

A small fire broke out Sunday afternoon on a train traveling from Almere Centrum to Amsterdam Centraal, the Dutch Railways (NS) confirmed. The train is currently stopped near Weesp.

A spokesperson for the fire department said the alert came in around 3:00 p.m., but the fire was already out when firefighters reached the train.

NS officials said the train might continue to the next station to allow passengers to disembark. If that is not possible, passengers will be evacuated by bus or by transfer to another train.

NS has suspended service between Amsterdam Centraal and Almere, and between Amsterdam Centraal and Bussum, while authorities assess the situation.
