d4vd concerts in Amsterdam cancelled after discovery of child's remains in singer's car
Two Amsterdam concert venues cancelled scheduled performances by d4vd after the discovery of a badly decomposing body found in a vehicle registered to the American singer, whose legal name is David Anthony Burke. The remains of 15-year-old Celeste Rivas were found on Sept. 8 in the front trunk of the abandoned Tesla, which was located at an impound lot.
"The d4vd concert at Paradiso is canceled due to unforeseen circumstances. Refunds will be issued at point of purchase," according to a statement on the Paradiso website. His performance at the Amsterdam venue was set to take on Oct. 10.
The 20-year-old was also due to perform a day earlier down the street at Melkweg. The show was also listed as being cancelled on the website of Ticketmaster, with the venue saying refunds will be issued automatically for tickets and memberships. About a dozen people were still trying to sell their tickets to the Melkweg concert on resale website TicketSwap for up to 90 euros as of Friday evening.
The girl's cause of death has not been released, but the case is being investigated as a homicide, according to the Los Angeles Times. A missing person bulletin stated she was 13 when she went missing on April 5, 2024, standing 160 centimeters, and weighing 54 kilograms. She was last seen with long, curly brown hair, a black sweater, gray pants, and Hello Kitty sandals.
Rivas was living in Inland Empire just east of Los Angeles when she went missing. It is not yet known if she and Burke were connected in any way, but website TMZ reported the two may have had matching tattoos on their fingers, stating "Shhh..."
He was said to be cooperating with authorities, and has not been charged. Born in New York, Burke grew up in Houston and has recently been residing in Hollywood Hills, according to local media. The abandoned vehicle was seen on the street in the the same neighborhood of Los Angeles on Sept. 3 before it was brought to the tow yard in Hollywood, the Times reported.
“The decedent was found severely decomposed inside a vehicle,” the L.A. County Medical Examiner's report stated, listing her weight at just 32 kilograms. “She appears to have been deceased inside the vehicle for an extended period of time before being found.” A search warrant was executed at a home near where the car had been parked, local broadcaster ABC7 reported.
Burke found viral fame for the music he created for his self-produced montages from the video game, Fortnite. He signed a deal with Darkroom and its partner label, Interscope Records.
Under the name d4vd, Burke's music draws about 35.4 million monthly listeners on Spotify. The service says his hit, Romantic Homicide, has been played nearly 1.7 billion times, and another song, Here With Me, has been played almost 1.6 billion times.
The European portion of his tour was in support of his album, Withered. In Amsterdam, he was due to perform with opening act Saga Faye, who is based in Stockholm.
