Man sexually assaults young girl in Rotterdam's Zuiderpark; Police seek witnesses
The police are looking for a man who sexually assaulted a young girl in the Zuiderpark in Rotterdam earlier this month. The child was unable to give the police a clear description, so investigators are seeking witnesses.
The incident happened on Tuesday, August 12. The girl was in the park with her mother. At around 4:30 p.m., she disappeared from her mother’s view for a few minutes. When her mother found her again, the girl told her that a man had touched her in the bushes, the police said. This happened among the reeds on Zuiterparkpromenade-West.
The mother called the police, who immediately launched an investigation. “Evidence and footage were secured. Several people were interviewed. Security in the park was immediately intensified, with both identifiable and plainclothes officers,” the police said. “But, despite all efforts, this has not yet resulted in a clear description or image of the possible suspect.”
The police are looking for anyone who might have noticed the man and the girl and provide more information. “The weather was beautiful that afternoon, and the park was busy. Therefore, we urge anyone who has not yet spoken to officers to come forward.”
At this stage, all the police can say about the suspect is that he is a light-skinned man with a black and gray beard and hair, and green-blue eyes. The police believe he is older than 35.
The police did not disclose the victim’s age, only saying that she is “a young girl” and was wearing a sleeveless dark blue dress with white unicorns and white sandals.
