Dutch woman dies after boat collision on Italy’s lake Como

A Dutch woman died Saturday after falling from a boat during a collision on Lake Como in Italy. Authorities said the incident occurred in the afternoon near Viale Geno, a well-known scenic area in the town of Como. A group of Dutch tourists had rented one of the two vessels involved, NOS reports.

According to Italian officials, the 33-year-old woman lost her balance when the boats collided and fell into the water. She was then struck by the propeller of one of the boats, suffering severe leg injuries.

The captain of the other vessel attempted to rescue her. Emergency crews airlifted the woman by trauma helicopter to Sant’Anna Hospital in Como, where she died shortly after arriving.

A 44-year-old man who was aboard the other boat was also flown by helicopter to the hospital. He is reported to be in stable condition and is not in life-threatening danger. Police have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the accident.
