Amsterdam woman arrested for pulling toy gun during argument on Nieuwe Meer

An argument between the passengers of two boats on the Nieuwe Meer lake near Amsterdam escalated to the point that the police responded to the scene with a helicopter and multiple units. A 58-year-old woman from Amsterdam pulled a gun on the other boat. The gun later proved to be a toy, the police said on Instagram.

The argument broke out just after 5:00 p.m. on Thursday between the passengers on two boats. What triggered the fight is unclear, but it escalated to the point that the Amsterdam woman pulled a gun and pointed it at the other boat. “Her husband, displeased with the woman’s actions, took the firearm from her and put it away. The couple then sailed away,” the police said.

Witnesses called the police, who launched a massive search for the couple with multiple units and the police helicopter. Because the couple may have been armed, the police approached them very cautiously when they found them.

The police arrested the 58-year-old woman for threatening others and violating the firearms law. Her 60-year-old husband was also arrested for operating the boat while intoxicated.

After investigation, the gun turned out to be a toy.
