Boy killed after being struck by shovel vehicle near Scherpenzeel

A young boy was killed Friday evening after being hit by a shovel vehicle in a field near Scherpenzeel, a village in the province of Gelderland. Police have confirmed the victim was a boy but have not released his age, NOS reports.

The incident occurred in the rural outskirts of the village. Emergency services were alerted around 8 p.m. and responded in large numbers to the scene.

Two ambulances and a trauma helicopter were dispatched to the area. Paramedics and other responders attempted to resuscitate the boy on site. Despite the efforts of emergency crews, the child could not be saved. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities have not released further details about the circumstances of the collision or the operation of the shovel. The investigation is ongoing.
