Wrong-way driver injures four in multi-vehicle crash in Gelderland
A wrong-way driver caused a three-car crash on the A12 near Duiven (Gelderland) late Friday night, injuring at least four people, according to police reports cited by De Gelderlander. The collision, which occurred shortly after 10 p.m., involved seven people in total and forced a prolonged closure of the highway toward the German border.
Two of the cars carried only the drivers, both of whom were injured and transported to the hospital. The third vehicle was carrying a family with three children. The mother, who was driving, was also hospitalized. The conditions of the injured victims have not been released.
Police said they received several calls about a wrong-way driver on the A12 shortly before the crash. Minutes later, they were alerted to a serious collision involving that vehicle.
Emergency services responded in force, deploying at least six ambulances, several fire trucks, and a trauma helicopter to the scene. The road between Westervoort and Zevenaar remained closed for hours to allow responders to assist victims and investigators to examine the crash site. A detour was set up via the A50 and Nijmegen, while traffic from Germany toward Arnhem was restricted to one lane.
