Car crashes straight through coach bus leaving four hurt in Hengelo

A car crashed straight through a coach bus in Hengelo on Tuesday night, leaving four people injured. At least two people needed hospital treatment.

The accident happened on Bornestraat near the A1 onramp at around 11:30 p.m. The police, several ambulances, the fire brigade, and a trauma team by helicopter were deployed to the scene.

Bystanders told RTV Oost that the black BMW was driving at high speed from the direction of Plein Westermaat when it crashed into the coach on Bornestraat.

The bus was empty, except for the driver. He escaped the serious accident unscathed.

The four people in the BMW all got hurt, though the extent of their injuries is unclear. According to the Tubantia, two were taken to a hospital for treatment.

The police arrested the driver of the BMW, a 21-year-old man from Rijssen, and confiscated his license. A police spokesperson told Tubantia that this is standard procedure for such a serious accident. The driver was not under the influence of alcohol.

Photos from the scene show that the car is completely crumpled and there is a large hole in the bus. The police are investigating what happened.
