Amsterdam firefighters save three people and dog from burning building
Three residents and a dog were rescued by firefighters using a ladder truck during a fire in an apartment on Rozengracht in central Amsterdam late Saturday night, authorities confirmed.
The fire broke out around 10:30 p.m. Emergency services quickly escalated the situation to a “large fire,” prompting a major response with multiple firefighting units deployed to the scene, AT5 reported. Although the fire was swiftly brought under control, firefighters had to evacuate the residents and the dog from the second floor using a ladder truck.
All three people were examined by emergency medical personnel for smoke inhalation. None of them required hospital treatment, officials said.
Due to heavy smoke damage, the apartment is currently uninhabitable. The residents were not able to return home Saturday night.
The dog was found to be in good condition after the rescue, according to firefighters. “The residents were also missing their cat for a time, but it has since been located and is in good health,” the fire department said. The cause of the fire is not yet known. An investigation is underway.
