Amsterdam police investigating whether woman in viral King’s Day video was being raped
Amsterdam police are investigating a video circulating on social media that appears to show a man and a woman engaging in sexual activity on the Keizersgracht during King’s Day celebrations. Authorities are examining whether the act was consensual or if it concerns a possible rape, according to the police.
The footage, shared by multiple accounts across social media platforms, shows a man and a woman lying between parked cars on the Keizersgracht, near the intersection with Utrechtsestraat. Although the individuals are not clearly visible, the video shows the man positioned on top of the woman with his pants around his ankles. Partygoers walking by can be seen reacting with clear astonishment to the scene.
Police have confirmed they are aware of the video and have launched an investigation. "We are investigating whether there was consent or whether this may involve rape," a police spokesperson said. "We also know who the two individuals are; they are not strangers to each other."
Authorities are also urging the public to stop distributing the video. "It is important to realize that sharing sexually explicit images without the consent of those involved is a criminal offense," police said in a public statement. "We are calling on people to refrain from further spreading such material."
In addition to the Keizersgracht video, police report that other images have surfaced from King’s Day celebrations showing people engaging in sexual acts and women urinating in public. Authorities state that sharing such images without consent is also a criminal offense under Dutch law and urge the public to stop distributing them.
