Video: Man, 50, shot dead on Venlo parking lot
A 50-year-old man from the municipality of Horst en Maas was shot dead on a parking lot in Venlo on Monday afternoon. The police are looking for witnesses.
The shooting happened at around 5:15 p.m. in a parking lot on Prinsenstraat. The emergency services, including a trauma team by helicopter, responded en masse. First responders tried to resuscitate the victim, but it was to no avail. He died at the scene.
The shooting happened in front of the building that houses the local youth care office and Veilig Thuis, the center that supports domestic abuse victims. A police spokesperson told NOS that the shooting seems unrelated to these agencies. “It’s just pure coincidence,” the spokesperson said, adding that the offices were also closed on Easter Monday.
So far, no arrests have been made. The police have little idea of what happened, saying they are looking for one or more suspects with no descriptions. Investigators asked witnesses or locals with relevant camera footage to come forward.
The incident happened in broad daylight. “A lot of people saw it happen, it was Easter Monday. It certainly had an impact on the neighborhood,” the police spokesperson told NOS. Victim support was made available for witnesses.
