Tony’s Chocolonely recalls chocolate bars possibly containing small pebbles
Dutch chocolate firm Tony’s Chocolonely has issued a product recall for specific batches of three chocolate bars due to potential contamination with tiny pebbles. Tony’s Chocolonely has not disclosed how the pebbles may have entered the chocolate.
The product recall includes both the 90-gram and 180-gram chocolate bars in the Puur Amandel Zeezout variety, a dark chocolate with pieces of almond and sea salt. The third product named is the Melk Karamel Amandel Noga Pretzel Zeezout. This variant is subject to the recall in only the 180 gram size. It contains milk chocolate, caramel, almond, nougat, pretzel and sea salt.
Only bars with specific lot codes and expiration dates are included in the recall, the company said on Tuesday. Consumers can find the lot code on the side of the packaging, next to the best-before date.
Tony’s Chocolonely has provided an online tool on its website where customers can enter their lot code to check if their chocolate is from an affected batch.
Customers who have purchased one of the affected bars are strongly advised not to consume them. Instead, they are instructed to return the product to the store where it was purchased to receive compensation.
The company claimed the risk of contamination is low, saying the recall announcement was made as a precautionary measure. The company said all other products remain safe for consumption.
