Chinese-born Uyghur man identified as victim of fatal shooting in Oss
The victim of a fatal shooting in Oss on Feb. 10 has been identified as 23-year-old Maihemuti Yisikandaier, a man of Uyghur descent who was born in China. The police confirmed his identity in an effort to gather more information about the case. Yisikandaier had no fixed address at the time of his death.
The shooting occurred in the evening on Professor Regoutstraat in the North Brabant town. Authorities have not disclosed further details about the circumstances of the incident but are urging anyone with information about Yisikandaier’s movements in January and February to come forward.
According to police, Yisikandaier was born in China and later emigrated to Turkey. He spoke Uyghur and Turkish and may have also spoken English. It remains unclear how he arrived in the Netherlands, but investigators have determined that he previously stayed in Biddinghuizen, Ter Apel, Enschede, Oss, and Oosterhout.
The day after the shooting, police carried out raids at multiple residences on Professor Regoutstraat, though they have not specified whether any arrests were made. Investigators are seeking individuals who knew Yisikandaier or provided him with shelter, hoping to gain insight into the circumstances leading to his death.
