Carbon monoxide poisoning: 12 people unwell at hotel on Scheveningen Pier

At least 12 people, including two paramedics, became unwell due to carbon monoxide poisoning at a hotel on De Pier in Scheveningen on Tuesday evening. Multiple ambulances responded to the scene and took the injured to a hospital for treatment and monitoring.

The emergency services received the first report of people falling ill at the hotel at around 9:45 p.m. They complained of nausea and dizziness, a spokesperson for the fire brigade told Omroep West.

Multiple ambulances responded to the scene. Paramedics brought some people out on stretchers, wearing oxygen masks. Others were able to leave the hotel under their own power. In the end, 12 people had to go to the hospital for further treatment. Among them were two paramedics who had responded to the scene to help.

The fire brigade evacuated the entire hotel as a precaution and the police cordoned off part of the Boulevard. Investigating firefighters identified a carbon monoxide leak as the cause of the health complaints. The fire brigade closed the leak and ventilated the building before guests could return to their rooms.
